The Blue Devils Drumline is a part of the award winning Mt. Lebanon High School Marching Band. This performance ensemble allows students in grades 9-12 the opportunity to perform before thousands of fans at football games, band festivals and parades. In addition, the Drumline performs as a solo unit at various community events. The Drumline has won numerous awards including first place and superior ratings at competitions around the country.
The instrumentation for the Drumline consists of 5-8 snares, 3-5 tenors, 5 bass drums and 5-8 cymbals. The Drumline is well known for its cadence set that is performed after the halftime show home football games. This performance features the drum cadences that are enhanced by the popular visual effects that have become a trademark of the Mt. Lebanon Drumline.
To achieve such a high level of precision, the Drumline maintains a fairly intensive rehearsal schedule. Twice-weekly practices (4 hours each) begin in June and continue through the first week of August. Students who are on vacation are excused from attending. The group then joins the full marching band for two weeks of band camp during mid -August (7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Mon. - Fri.). Once school begins, the Drumline has one two-hour sectional per week in addition to the full marching band evening rehearsals.
Membership in the Drumline is open to any 9th - 12th grade percussionist through either the Marching Percussion Auditions (grades 10-12) or the 8th Marching Percussion Audition for the incoming freshmen class. Everyone is accepted as the auditions are not exclusionary. They are used to demonstrate student’s skill and aid the staff in instrument placement. The Mt. Lebanon Percussion staff provides instruction to all interested 8th graders during their regular band class February through May in order to prepare for the audition.

The Blue Devils Front Ensemble is a part of the award winning Mt. Lebanon High School Marching Band. This performance ensemble, also known as The Pit, is unique among local high schools and allows students in grades 9-12 the opportunity to perform before thousands of fans at football games and band festivals. The Front Ensemble has been one of the most popular and visual elements of the marching band for years.
The instrumentation for the front consists of multiple keyboards (marimbas, vibes, xylo & bells), as well as a wide variety of world and concert percussion instruments. They use these instruments to perform the multiple songs of the halftime show as well as the popular Marching Percussion Feature at home games, festivals, and the spring Evening of Percussion Concert Series as well as other community and local events.
To maintain their high level of excellence, the Front Ensemble maintains a fairly intensive rehearsal schedule. Twice-weekly practices (4 hours each) begin in June and continue through the first week of August. Students who are on vacation are excused from attending. The group then joins the full marching band for two weeks of band camp during mid -August (7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Mon. - Fri.).
