Rick M. Laus
Mr. Laus provides private lessons to students in grades 4-12 and is the Director of the African Ensemble. In 2000, he organized the Summer Percussion Camp for students in grades 4-7 and serves as the director of the camp.
Mr. Laus was a member of the Quasar Junior Drum and Bugle Corps and the Pittsburgh Rockets Senior Drum and Bugle Corps. He has worked as a drumline instructor for several schools in the Pittsburgh area including Penn Hills, Chartiers Valley, Keystone Oaks and Northgate High Schools.
Mr. Laus performs with several groups in the Pittsburgh area including Bob Riddle's Kings of Swing, Billy Mancini and the Bombay Blue Sapphire Band and Matt Ferrante and Modern Times. He has also performed with the Val Clark Band, John McDonald and the Mango Men, Dr. Kwasi and the Islanders, Glen Quarrie Quartet, Strange Brew, Hot Matzohs, Pirate Bucco Band, Orchestra Tropical and Algo Latino. Performance venues include Dowe's on Ninth, Paparrazzi's, Atria's on the North Shore, Rhythm House Cafe, Kelly-Strathorn Theatre, Westin Convention Center, Omni William Penn and many area country clubs. He has also performed at Three Rivers Stadium and the I.C. Light Ampitheatre.
Mr. Laus produced and performed on a jazz CD titled "Family and Friends" with his studio group RML Jazz Family and has recently completed a debut CD with Bob Riddle's Kings of Swing, as well as a live performance recording with Billy Mancini in April 2002. Mr. Laus is a professional drummer/percussionist/educator with professional experience since 1968. He received a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Pittsburgh and has studied percussion under "Babe" Fabrizi, Cosmo Barbaro at Edinboro University, Ron Horner at Pitt and Dr. Kwasi Jayourba.
