03/14/10    DEPARTMENTAL AUDITIONS - SATURDAY, APRIL 17TH

The 2010 Departmental Auditions will be held on Saturday, April 17th,
from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

The Departmental Audition is a very important day for all high school percussionists since it has a direct impact on your instrument assignment for Marching Band and your part assignments for Concert Ensemble.

Please read all of the following information regarding selection of audition slot and selection of audition music.

AUDITION TIME SLOT SELECTION:

1. The sign-up form for audition times will be posted Monday, March 15, 2010, at 3:30 p.m. on the Percussion Studio door.

2. Any student auditioning must choose (1) 10 minute time slot.

3. The deadline for choosing a time slot will be Friday, March 26, 2010, at 3:30 p.m. If you have not selected an audition slot by this time, one will be assigned for you.

4. In addition to choosing a time slot, you must place a check in the "closed" or "open" audition box. A closed audition is one in which you perform for the staff only. An open audition is one in which other members of the high school percussion program may view your audition.

5. Please do not invite friends or family to the Departmental. That is what Recital Night is for.

6. Remember this!!!!!!! Bring (6) copies of each song for the judges when you come to your audition. This is critical!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DEPARMENTAL MUSIC SELECTION PROCESS:

Due by Friday, March 26, 2010, 3:30 p.m.

All percussion students in grades 9-11, interested in performing for the Percussion Ensemble and/or Marching Band, are required to turn in their Departmental music on the above date.

Grades 9 through 11 must perform both a drum (timpani, multi-perc., or snare) and a mallet piece.

PROCESS FOR TURNING IN MUSIC:

1. Place legible copies (1 for each piece) of your music in a large yellow envelope. *All music must be placed in the mailbox of Mr. Das located on the studio desk.

2. Do not grade your music. The staff will take care of that for you.

3. Seal the envelope.

4. On the envelope, write your name and grade.

5. Write the name of your music selections also.

6. All music selections will be final by this date!

7. I will not take any music after March 26, 2010!

8. You will not be permitted to change your music after this date! Please do not miss the deadline.

PLEASE ADDRESS ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING DEPARTMENTAL AUDITIONS TO MR. DAS.

03/05/10    2010 AD CAMPAIGN IS NOW CLOSING

Today is the final day for our 2010 Advertising Campaign. Each family is responsible for gathering all ad components in the blue folder you were given at the Family Meeting and returning the folder to Lucy Albrecht at 565 Audubon Ave 15228.

Ad components consist of:

Ad copies
Selection forms
Checks made payable to Friends of Mt. Lebanon Percussion

If, for some reason, you are still collecting the ad components and will not be able to turn everything in today, at a minimum, PLEASE call Lucy THIS EVENING (at 412-344-6858) and let her know what ads you are expecting, how much each ad was sold for and when you expect to turn in the ad components. This will allow Lucy to plan the ad set-up and to sleep a whole lot better.

Each family is requested to secure $350.00 in ad sales to help defray the $1186.25 that Friends of Mt. Lebanon Percussion spends on each high school student to provide them with an outstanding percussion performanmce and educational experience.

If you have any questions regarding the ad copies, selection forms, or any other part of the Ad Campaign, please contact Lucy Albrecht (412-344-6858) or Anne Lutz Zacharias (412-344-4552).

Thank you!

Mr. Minnotte

03/05/10    CONCERTO FOR MARIMBA MAKE-UP REHEARSAL IS SCHEDULED

Due to the French Class trip to France (we will lose our rehearsal on March 24th), and Spring Break (we will lose our rehearsal on March 31st), we must add a make-up rehearsal. This make-up rehearsal for Concerto for Marimba will be Saturday, March 20th, from 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Unfortunately, this is also the same day as the African Dance Clinic (for members of the African Ensemble only) and the Band Spaghetti Dinner. However, it was the only day that all of the players on Concerto for Marimba could agree on as a make-up date.

02/26/10    COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS CREDITED FOR HOLIDAY PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE

The School District has been provided a list of percussion ensemble students who have earned "Out-of-School Community Service Hours" for their participation in the 2009 Holiday, Bells, Mallets & Drums Concert Series.

Hours earned are:

3 hours for Friendship Village

3 hours for Mt. Lebanon Christian Church

8 hours for the members of the Keyboard Ensemble that performed for the KDKA Free Care Telethon

These hours were turned in directly to the Community Service Office (Mrs. Kolko) and will be recorded by that office in the individual student's folder. There is nothing else that a student, or parent/guardian, needs to do.

Again, these are counted as "Out-of-School Community Service Hours."

Please direct any questions to Mr. Minnotte.
